(New York, New York) October 22nd 2013 Emerging Artist Abdullah Qandeel is pleased to announce his newest exhibition “Open Versus Closed” which will be exclusively held at The Trump Soho Penthouse in New York City starting October 29th. Abdullah Qandeel is a pioneer of art that has emerged from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, a historical trading city. Qandeel is known for his bravery in expression and ability to implement colorful abstract paintings using oil on canvas (Reference ‘The Failure’ sold at Sotheby’s on April 22.)
The exclusive appointment only event held at the SO Million Dollar space owned by real estate mogul Alex Sapir, is not accessible to all the invitees, it is up to the artists discretion at the reception held on the top floor to accompany those individuals who he deems worthy of his expression. A young artist of just 25 years, is not content about his journey, as a boy on September 11th 2001 his own values changed. The “Open Versus Closed” exhibition is about empathy, and how empathy is Qandeel’s solution. Drawing from the inspiration of others enabled Qandeel to create art that comes from not only his mind but through his heart. “I hereby state that I no longer accept the stereotype and the prison that I have been handed to me over generations of time. I invite you to observe, feel and absorb the development of the new Arab culture, the revival of a new generation where investigation replaces revelation. I am not differentiating myself I am simply saying that our common sense has been raped.” Said Abdullah Qandeel.
The Trump Soho Penthouse boasts a view of one large tower that represents true freedom, The Freedom Tower. As an 11year old boy, Abdullah was living in a boarding school as the only Muslim individual; a boy that shared the same sadness as the victims for his identity on that day was also shattered. Today he was gifted the ability to express his emotions through a visual diary that can be seen only on canvas with the Freedom Tower as a backdrop only to remain as reminder that empathy is the solution. “Open Versus Closed” surrounds that view, and represents a true win for humanity.
