How would you describe your personal style in 5 words?
Evolving, bright, experimental, chic, and relaxed.
Can you tell us more about what inspired you to create your blog?
When I was a little girl I used to play dress-up with my sister and we pretended that we were modeling for a magazine photo shoot. It was funny because we actually developed the photos ourselves and created a “one copy magazine” which we sold viagra fast to our parents. But in a nutshell I guess that’s where my love for fashion all started.
The idea of Confashions from Kuwait came about in April 2007 when I realized I needed an outlet for my passion for fashion (other than shopping!) I initially wanted to start my career in the fashion industry, but found the opportunities very limited in Kuwait. Also, since there weren’t any Kuwaiti fashion blogs back then I decided to settle for a ‘normal’ job and start a blog at the same time about fashion and shopping, which turned out to be great. I try to offer a Kuwaiti perspective wherever possible when posting about fashion and lifestyle.
What would be your best advice for bloggers looking to make their mark in the fashion industry?
The most vital thing is to blog regularly and to stay true to what you’re blogging about.
Would you say your blog is quite ‘niche’ in terms of its target audience?
On the regional level I’d say yes it is. The blogging scene in our region has just started to pick up which I love! I truly believe that it takes a lot of effort to blog and offer material of value rather than simply uploading photos without opinions. These types of blogs, the ones that offer opinion, are fairly limited in number in our region – that being said, my blog is not niche on an international level because of the massive amount of competition out there!
Who are your designer and high street influences?
For high street I would have to say Zara and Topshop. As for my designer influences, I would say Alaia, Balenciaga, Dries Van Noten and Peter Pilotto.
Where do you like to hang out and get some much needed ‘down time’?
Relaxing on the beach or at home…. no contest!
Which brands do you work with on a regular basis and please can you tell us how you started out working with them?
Moda Operandi, Net-a-Porter, Gucci, Kenzo, DKNY, AlOthman Boutique and BySymphony to name a few. I have been extremely lucky enough to be approached by these fashion giants and so working with brands has sort of grown from there really.
Which magazines have you been featured in and which publications would you most love to work with in the future?
I have been featured in Marie Claire Kuwait, Viva Magazine, VELVET Magazine, Style.com Arabia, Khaleejesque, Hia Magazine, Aramco World Magazine, Savoir Flaire, Sketchbook Magazine, Sarab Magazine and Bazaar Magazine. I’d love to work with any well established fashion or lifestyle magazine to be able to gain as much experience of working within the press as possible.
How important do you feel social media platforms are these days for bloggers?
Extremely important! These are great tools to communicate with your readers and to promote your blog posts to a wider audience.
Aside from blogging, do you have any other interests or hobbies that you like to do?
I enjoy reading, visiting art galleries and spending quality time with my family.
And finally, what’s next for you in terms of collaborations and plans for the future?
I have a few exciting projects that I’m working on at the moment, but you will get to know about them first through my blog, so stay tuned!
