Dubai International Film Festival kicked off its 10th edition on December 6th, 2013. Red carpets in the Middle East are always more interesting than those in Hollywood because our celebs are definitely known to be more, well, opulent and extravagant. These events always feature tons of Middle Eastern designers giving the looks a little more edge and giving us a break from looking at the similar styles most Hollywood elitists wear.
So whose looks were perfect and whose took it a little over the edge? Here’s our break down of the DIFF ’13 opening ceremony red carpet
Hits:
Of course, at the top of our list is this year’s DIFF judge Kate Blanchet who was perfection in this Valentino dress. Everything about that dress was made for her and only her!
Lebanese media figure Raya Abirached was stunning in fellow countryman Tony Ward’s design and Jade Jewellery diamonds. This is exactly what we wanted the host of the show to look like.
Rima Al Banna mixed it up a bit with this mullet dress and cape from her own designs. We love how she didn’t go for the typical red carpet, princess look. Also, that chubby fish tail is so young Hollywood (the good kind, not the DUI one).
Lebanese beauty mogul Joelle Mardinian was definitely a hit in this Aiisha Ramadan gown, even if it looks a bit long on her.
Who says you can’t be pregnant and stunning? Yasmeen el Rayes definitely shows that “pregnancy glow” everyone is always raving about. She continues to rock her pixie hair and we love how well it mixes with her classic Nada Akram gown.
Misses:
Tunisian actress Dorra Zarrouk. We get where you wanted to go with this Malak El Ezzawy dress (we had to try really hard, but we get it now), but that situation on the chest is making us quite uncomfortable. And that fabric, what is that?
Egyptian TV celebrity, Possy Shalaby recently underwent an incredible body transformation, and this dress definitely highlights that. The look also highlights everything that was wrong with 80s fashion: the loud colors, excessive shininess, and really, really big hair.
Saudi singer Shams is no stranger to the miss list. Trying to be Lady Gaga maybe?
And finally, the question of the night: do Boshra and Possy Shalaby share a beauty team?
