Paris, 8 January 2014 – The LANVIN fashion house founded by Jeanne Lanvin in 1889 celebrates its 125th anniversary in 2014. It’s the perfect opportunity to revisit the fascinating history of the oldest French fashion house.

The www.lanvin.com website will be welcoming a new section entitled “LANVIN HISTORY“. It will include a technological update specifically for this section to maximise the visitor’s visual experience. Photos of the Lanvin heritage unveiled for the first time, archive video footage and original Jeanne Lanvin gouaches from the time that are unique in the history of fashion will recount 125 years of design. An invitation to a journey through the times and trends of the oldest French fashion house still in business.This new section will open at the beginning of February 2014.

The LANVIN Facebook page marked the beginning of the festivities on 1 January, which was also the birthday of founder Jeanne Lanvin, who was born in Paris on 1 January 1867. Through her Timeline, fans of the page can view, every Thursday, exclusive content presenting the important dates in the fashion house’s history.

Pinterest will show boards of images or videos illustrating the DNA, codes and themes of the Lanvin brand universe. A description or anecdote will accompany each board. The first 5 boards will show Jeanne Lanvin, Marguerite, Lanvin hats, the logo of the brand and the Lanvin Blue.

Every Thursday on Instagram (@lanvinofficial), the fashion house will show its 225,000 fans an object from Jeanne Lanvin’s office, located in the historical building at 22 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. The room, which has been carefully conserved away from prying eyes, was where “Madame” conducted fittings and assembled books filled with her inspirations. Her “fabric library”, as she liked to call it, brings together embroidery books, magazines from the time, travel journals and more. To find the different content on the application more easily, the hashtag #Lanvin125 will be added to the visual descriptions.

The number “125” has been added to the logo consisting of the famous illustration by Paul Iribe representing Jeanne Lanvin and her daughter Marguerite.
In 1889, on the corner of rue Boissy d’Anglas and rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, Jeanne Lanvin founded her fashion house.This legendary address would still be home to the couture house many years down the road. Eight years later, her only daughter Marguerite Marie Blanche was born, and soon became her muse and main source of inspiration.Delighted with motherhood, the businesswoman had a brilliant new business idea: children’s wear. Little by little, she designed a wonderful wardrobe for Marguerite. Jeanne Lanvin had just invented children’s fashion. The shop’s customers, the mothers of the little girls who were in the same private class, fell instantly in love with the designs, asking Jeanne Lanvin to make the same outfits for their own children. Amid the excitement of the orders placed by her customers for their own daughters, Jeanne Lanvin opened a “Children’s Suits” department in 1908. A year later, she opened the“Young Ladies and Women”’s departments. Jeanne Lanvin joined the Syndicat de la Couture, the designers’ union, and entered into the very closed world of French Fashion Houses. As Marguerite grew up and became a woman, Lanvin’s style evolved accordingly.
