L’Wren Scott, fashion designer and girlfriend to Mick Jagger, has been found dead in what police suspect was a suicide.
NEW YORK, United States | L’Wren Scott, fashion designer and girlfriend to Mick Jagger, was found dead in her Manhattan apartment on Monday, in what police suspect was a suicide. She was discovered by her assistant, who had received a text message from Scott at about 8.30am asking that she come over to her house. When the assistant arrived, she let herself into the apartment with a key and telephoned police. It’s unclear if Scott, 49, left behind a note.
In February, the brand cancelled its runway show at London Fashion Week, announcing that production delays had left key pieces unready. But financial issues were thought to be the real reason the company called off the show.
A spokesman said that Mick Jagger was “completely shocked and devastated” by the news.
A former Chanel and Thierry Mugler model who grew up in Utah, Scott moved to Los Angeles in 1994 to become a stylist, working with Herb Ritts for Vanity Fair and Rolling Stone.
Scott launched her line in 2006 with a ready-to-wear collection entitled the Little Black Dress and later expanded into accessories, footwear and eyewear. Her designs earned wide industry acclaim, appeared as costumes in films including Ocean’s Thirteen and Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut, and were regularly worn by some of the world’s most famous women, including Sarah Jessica Parker, Christina Hendricks, Michelle Obama and Penelope Cruz.
