The latest edition of NET-A-PORTER’s digital magazine under Editor-in-Chief Lucy Yeomans features British Fashion Council ambassadors – Poppy, Alexa and Laura – modelling new season pieces by London designers and talking about their coveted sartorial secrets.
In an exclusive interview with NET-A-PORTER, fashion star Alexa Chung declares that, “Britain is the ONLY place that inspires my style” and that she admires, “how creative British people can be with their clothes while still being practical because of the weather – it makes for lots of interesting layering.” The Fashion Week show she’s most excited about is, “Henry Holland: the soundtrack is awesome and all my friends are there.”
Alexa cites Central Saint Martins graduate Simone Rocha as the one designer to watch for her, “Beautifully simple cuts and innovative use of fabric.” Alexa wore Simone’s designs to the British Fashion Awards last year where she picked up the British Style Award. The black dress will be available to buy on www.net-a-porter.com next month.
Meanwhile model Poppy Delevingne’s favourite designers include Michael van der Ham for “his use of color and texture” and Matthew Williamson who has “flown the flag for British fashion for the past 15 years.” When asked if sister and model-of-the-moment, Cara, needs any advice, Poppy proclaims “Cara doesn’t need any words of wisdom; she was born striking a pose. When she was three, I was giving her a bath and she stood up with a sponge on her head and asked, “Who am I?” I replied, “Little Red Riding Hood?” She said, “No, I’m Claudia Schiffer.”
Model and writer Laura Bailey also features in the digital magazine spread, describing her role as cultural ambassador for the British Fashion Council as “pretty diverse, from building new relationships with designers to creating short fashion film projects or simply wearing up-and-coming labels to shows – which I love!” Her wardrobe essentials include Charlotte Olympia heels, Christopher Kane tees and Stella McCartney denim. And for evening? “I love a Jonathan Saunders printed blouse and skirt.”
