As if the amfAR Gala’s red carpet wasn’t enough to push you into fashion sensory overload, we now have the night’s main event–the all-gold fashion show curated by Carine Roitfeld–to drool over.
Roitfeld tapped the biggest names in modeling–from Karlie Kloss to Joan Smalls to Lily Donaldson–as well as some non-models, like Anna Dello Russo, Julia Restoin Roitfeld and jewelry designer Bao Bao Wan. Wit looks styled to golden perfection, this year’s amfAR Fashion show definitely left a big impression, as promised.
“Since it is the 20th year of this event, I thought people should walk away with an incredible memory,” Roitfeld said of the show. “For me, this is really a tribute to Elizabeth Taylor. When you think of her in Cleopatra, you have this very powerful image of gold and beauty.”
We didn’t necessarily get any Liz Taylor vibes, but we enjoyed it nonetheless. Basically every big-name designer you’ve ever heard of–seriously, like, ever–contributed looks as well as some more international labels like Tarun Tahiliani and Shiatzy Chen. The jewelry was provided by both emerging and established designers who are affiliated with the World Gold Council’s LoveGold initiative, including Bulgari, House of Waris, Kimberly McDonald, and Hoorsenbuhs.
Afterwards the whole collection was auctioned off–and one lucky (and rich) bidder snapped it up for a cool $1.56 million. Other auction items apparently included a trip to space (which Leonardo DiCaprio snapped up), a week in Donna Karan’s Caribbean hideaway, a portrait session with Annie Leibovitz, and much, much more.
In total the gala raised $25 million for AIDS research.
